I start my new job tomorrow, where I won’t be driving a Yaris. I am not going to miss this car.

My wife still speaks glowingly of the second gen 5 door Yaris that we had as a rental after my Cobalt got totaled.

I once rented one was forced into one of those to travel one-way 6 hours from home..... I spent 6 hours wondering how in the world Toyota managed to convince showroom customers to purchase them?!

People have said a lot of bad shit about the Cobalt. But this is the most savage of them all.

My wife hated my Cobalt and me (briefly) for acquiring it.

Was it A Car? Or was that just marketing hype?

The second gen isn’t nearly as bad as the 2015 I’m driving, I’ll give it that at least

It was a superb commuter and fun to drive flat out all the time. With a stick I imagine it could be a hoot to beat the hell out of it on every drive.

We have an 07 in the fleet that refuses to die, it is a lot more fun to drive than this one.

My wife absolutely loves her Yaris. However, she is not a fan of the 2012+ Yarises (Yari? Yaris’s? Yars? I dunno...). She feels like Toyota ruined both the interior and exterior with that refresh. However, I suspect that since you aren’t a fan of what is apparently a 2012+ Yaris, you probably still wouldn’t be fan of the older ones, either...
Congratulations on the new job!

I can list off so many cars that are better at being A Car. At least everything else in the subcompact class.

I don’t mind the older ones nearly as much. They’re easier to see out of, a better weight for the power they have, and the interiors rattle much less. They still ride like crap and have awful, awful seats and ergonomics in general though.
Thanks!

Oppo Tie-in - I was headed to bring home a 1992 SC400, It was at the time 20 years old and worth roughly half of the MSRP of said newish Yaris. It was also immeasurably more comfortable and more fun for the 6 hour trip back home.

At least you get some equipment, our Echo doesn’t have a tach, or a/c, or any electric amenities. The only reason why Toyota’s subcompacts sell it’s because they haven’t changed the engines since the Tercel days so they are unkillable.

Fair point.
I don’t know if consumers even notice how many cylinders the engines have, let alone how long they’ve been around. I assume it’s just brand equity, even though the build quality of the new Yarii is laughable compared to a 90s Corolla
